Network disabling self?
I have two computers on my network. One wired, one wireless.
When I am using music on one computer that is stored on the other, sometimes the other computer drops the connection and file sharing stops. It seems to happen when the screen saver kicks in.
I have looked in the POWER settings, to see if there was a way for the network to never shut down but I cannot find anything.
Is there a setting I am missing?
This happens both ways, no matter which way I am sharing the file.
Also one is XP the other vista premium.
Thanks!
Well there is a power setting that diables the adapter but its not in the regular power saving area.
To get to it in Windows XP
1. Right click on “My Network Places” and click “Properties”.
2. Right click on the adapter that is shutting off and click “Properties”
3. Toward the top, beside the Connect Using Box, click “Configure”.
4. Then go to the “Power Management” tab.
5. Un-check the box that says “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”. Then just click OK.
If you need to get to it in Vista.
1. Go into the “Network Sharing Center”
2. Click “Change adapter settings” on the left hand side.
(Once your here just use steps 2 – 5 above.)
I hope this helps.
